Local Attractions

Local attraction Whitby

Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal

Garbutt Farm is about 7 miles from both Helmsley, a real tourist town, and Thirsk, with its James Herriot museum.  Nearby are the wonderful ruins of Rievaulx Abbey, a little further away is Castle Howard.  Pickering has a lovely steam train service to Whitby.  Whitby is on the coast and has brilliant fresh fish and chips.  You can walk on to the moors at Boltby just down what was the old drovers road.

If York Races are something that you have always wanted go to, York is 20 minutes on the train and then buses are provided to take you straight to the race course for an enjoyable day at the races with none of the hassel. This year in June there is a Festival of Racing in Thirsk. Also on the calendar this year are vintage car weekends at Castle Howard and Ripon.

On the property, are the remains of a WWII dummy airfield.  Gliders go up regularly from the Gliding club nearby and just passed it is the White Horse visible from the A19. There are many places to go and visit come rain or shine. Over the road from the farm are two racing stables so an added bonus is to watch race horses going up the gallops in the morning.

There are many local pubs with a few miles of the Farm and they all serve lovely food.
